He was born Jan. 21, 1914, in Elk Creek, Neb., to Conrad and Tillie Saathoff Buethe. He lived in Bruning, Neb., from 1952 to 1969 and in Stamford, Neb., from 1969 to 1996. He moved to Olathe in 1996. Buethe, 85, Olathe, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at a care center in Spring Hill. He was born Jan. 21, 1914, in Elk Creek, Neb., to Conrad and Tillie Saathoff Buethe. He lived in Bruning, Neb., from 1952 to 1969 and in Stamford, Neb., from 1969 to 1996. He moved to Olathe in 1996. He was a farmer for 24 years and was an assembler at B&D Manufacturing in Holdrege, Neb., from 1973 to 1979. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford, Neb., and the Golden Nugget and Harlan County Wheelers camping groups. He and Betty L. Clements were married Sept. 24, 1946, in Davenport, Neb. She died March 17, 1995. A son, Robert Buethe, and a daughter, Barbara Buethe, preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, Wayne O. Buethe, Beaver City, Neb.; daughters, Sheril K. Buethe, Ravenna, Neb., Joyce E. Kempf, Olathe, and Shirley M. Park, Kearney, Neb.; brothers, Arnold Buethe, WaKeeney, and Richard Buethe, Peoria, Ariz.; six grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford, Neb. Burial will be in Stamford Cemetery. Mr. Buethe will lie in state from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City, Neb., and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Olathe Medical Center Hospice or to Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford, Neb. Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa is in charge of Kansas arrangements.
