Read More	HAFER, ORVILLE DUANE—Orville Duane Hafer was born to Cleveland Hafer and Stella Grace White Hafer on June 12, 1920, at the family farm home east of Geneva. He passed away on April 13, 2000 at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 1 day. He was one of six children in the family. Orville grew up in the Strang and Geneva area and attended rural school near his home. He then attended Geneva High School where he graduated with the Class of 1937. He also attended and graduated from the Lincoln Aeronautical School. Following this, he was employed in several airplane plants. He enlisted in the Air Force on Aug. 14, 1941, and served as an airplane maintenance technician. He was discharged on Nov. 25, 1945. He returned to Geneva and was employed by A. Koehler Company as a carpenter for several years. He later worked for Biba and Kiester & Walker construction Companies. Orville was united in marriage to Florence Darlene Stephenson on March 23, 1947. To them six children were born: Richard, Donald, Douglas, Bruce, Susan and Brian. In 1953 they moved to their present home and Orville began farming. He loved the farm and just this year decided it was time to retire. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of Sloan-Bolton American Legion Post No. 68. He was most proud of his family and has watched several of his grandsons learn to operate the machinery. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Vivian Knotts; brother, Dean Hafer; daughter-in-law, Sondra Hafer and by step-granddaughter, Carrie Koves. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; his six children and their spouses, Richard and Kristi, Donald and Barbara, Douglas and Roxann, Bruce and Shirley, Susan and Gary Himes and Brian and Brenda; 18 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren, his sister, Doris Williamson Roberts; his brother, John Waldo Hafer and wife, Garnet, and his brother, Maurice Hafer. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 17, 2000 from the United Methodist Church in Geneva with Rev. Brian Kottas officiating. Delwin Myers sang “How Great Thou Art” and “In the Garden” accompanied by Susan Kleinschmidt. A solo “Hero” was sung by Larissa Himes, accompanied by Susan Kleinschmidt. Casket bearers were Richard, Donald, Douglas, Bruce and Brian Hafer; and Gary Himes. Interment with military flag presentation was held at the Geneva Public Cemetery.
