Description	:	HAFER, STELLA GRACE—Stella Grace Hafer was born to Walter Shaw White and Emma Adams Heffley on July 19, 1889 at Shickley and passed away on April 18, 1981, at the Fillmore County hospital at the age of 91 years. Read More	HAFER, STELLA GRACE—Stella Grace Hafer was born to Walter Shaw White and Emma Adams Heffley on July 19, 1889 at Shickley and passed away on April 18, 1981, at the Fillmore County hospital at the age of 91 years. She was one of two children in the family. At the age of six years, the family went to Alabama in a covered wagon. They returned to Nebraska in 1901. She attended public school in Shickley, graduating in 1907. A highlight of her school days was their championship basketball team. She attended Peru Normal and taught rural school in Fillmore county for five years. On April 24, 1912, she was married to Cleveland Hafer of Geneva at St. Paul’s Methodist church in Lincoln. To them six children were born. Their first home was on the Porter farm near Burress. They later moved to a farm home east of Geneva and then to a farm near Oak. Returning to live near Strang until 1950, when they retired and moved to 234 South 10th Street in Geneva. She joined the Methodist church in her youth, was a charter member of the WSCS and also a charter member of the Chelsea woman’s Extension club. Stella was preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland, on April 9, 1967; by her parents and brother, Sidney White, who are buried at Sebastopol, Cal.; half-brothers, Elmer Heffley of Montana and Harold Heffley of Drinkwater, Saskatchewan, Canada. Surviving are daughters, Doris Williamson of Lincoln and Vivian Knotts of North Hollywood, Cal.; sons Dean of Mt. Carroll, Ill.; Orville of Geneva, John Waldo of Omaha, and Maurice of Ohiowa; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Lois White of Sebastopol, Cal., and Mrs. Lela Stoldorf of Geneva; many nieces and nephews and 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Her life was devoted to her home and family. She has been an inspiration to her children and a source of joy and happiness to her grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the United Methodist church in Geneva, Tuesday, April 21, at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Jay Funk officiating. Delwin Myers sang “Beyond the Sunset” and “Good Night and Good Morning,” accompanied by Mrs. Norval Lomax. Casket bearers were grandsons, Jerry Williamson, John C., Galen, Rick, Donald and Douglas Hafer. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 23 April 1981 page 5.
