Mr. Stewart was born April 29, 1847 in Columbia, NH. His boyhood was spent with his parents in Northern NH and Vermont. Mr. Stewart was born April 29, 1847 in Columbia, NH. His boyhood was spent with his parents in Northern NH and Vermont. Although still young he felt such a desire to participate in the "War of the Rebellion" that his parents gave their consent and he was enrolled in the Grand Army of the Republic and from the Army received an honorable discharge on Aug. 28, 1865, returning to his Vermont home. He was married to Minnie Davis of Rocky Brook, RI on Dec. 27, 1866. In the year 1878 they came west and settled in Northwood, IA where they lived seven years. From there they went to Anoka, MN where they spent 12 years, returning to Iowa 3 years ago, he settled in Lake Mills, remaining with us till last Tuesday, when the enemy Death laid his hand on him. Mr. Stewart was a man of sterling qualities. As a boy he was noted for his honest ways and the principles manifested in his youth followed him through life and he was known everywhere as an honest, trustworthy man, a loving husband and an indulgent father to the 7 children that God had given him. Six of his children followed him to the grave, one having died in infancy (Laura Stewart). His aged mother feels keenly the loss of her son, and three brothers and two sisters feel sad to know their brother will never again greet them. Mr. Stewart has not been well for about two years, but not until recently was his disease considered of a serious character. He was well aware that his end was near and made full preparation for it. He settled up all his business and looked upon the coming event without fear. In early life he gave his heart to God and in His loving care we leave him.
