He was born November 16, 1915, at Bartlesville, Oklahoma the son of Hal and Stella (Troupe) Peebles. As a young man, he moved to Council Grove, Kansas where he attended schools. Peebles, 89, a sixty-year resident of the Lake Chelan Valley, died Tuesday, November 1, 2005, at Lake Chelan Community Hospital. He was born November 16, 1915, at Bartlesville, Oklahoma the son of Hal and Stella (Troupe) Peebles. As a young man, he moved to Council Grove, Kansas where he attended schools. On September 23, 1937, he married Bertha Williams at Cottonwood, Kansas. In 1942, they moved to Pasco and later to Pateros. Mr. Peebles was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was attached to the 2nd Marine Regiment and the 22nd Battalion. He served in numerous South Pacific Islands including Guadalcanal, Guam and Okinawa. Following his discharge, he returned to Kansas and moved his family to Chelan in 1945. For several years he was employed in heavy construction including Chief Joseph Dam, Wells Dam, Rocky Reach Dam and Rock Island Dam. His construction activity continued until 1970. He was also involved in a home building partnership with Jim McDonald, Sr. for a time. In 1948, he purchased his first apple orchard. His activity in the apple industry continued until his death. He had served as a board member of both Blue Chelan and later Trout, Inc. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 6853. During his early years, he had been a leader in 4H, FFA, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. He was a member of Chelan Valley Lodge #118, F.&A.M.; and was honored as Chelan Citizen of the Year. He had been an avid life-long fisherman. Survivors include his wife, Bertha of the home; two sons, Marrian and his wife Diane of Chelan, Herold and his wife Vicki of Chelan; his sister, Beverly Niski and her husband Vince of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his grandchildren, Bryan Peebles (Shannon) of Windsor, California, Lisa Smith (Kevin) of Spokane, Robert Peebles (Sarah) of Wenatchee, Jennifer Witherbee (Jay) of Chelan; and his great-grandchildren, Foster, Elliot and Madeline Peebles and Kobe Smith. He was preceded in death by six brothers; and one sister. A Tribute Service will take place Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at North Shore Bible Church. Donn Plew and Pastor Gordon Hyde will co-officiate. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Chelan Senior Citizens. Services are under the direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
