News, Feb. 17, 1955 _______________________________________________________ OBITUARY Oscar Calvin Beamer, son of Alexander and Lucinda Beamer, was born near Ransom, Kansas on September 8, 1887, and passed away at the Newman Hospital, Saturday, February 12, 1955, in Emporia, Kansas, at the age of 67. He was married to Essie Mead on September 8, 1908, near Ransom. He was engaged in farming until 1916, when he and his family moved to Marion, Ohio, where he was employed. In the spring of 1919, his two daughters, Edith, aged six; and June aged one year; and his wife, Essie, all passed away within a period of three weeks in the influenza epidemic. The following October, 1919, he and his two children, Lester and Maud, moved to Louisburg, Kansas, where he farmed. He was married in May, 1920 to Mary Pryor, of Louisburg, and lived there until 1926, when he moved to Ness County, and lived there 21 years. Soon after his wife Mary passed away, July 25, 1947, he purchased a farm adjoining Halls Summitt, Kansas, and lived there until his death. He was married to Purnia Smith, on April 7, 1949, of near Waverly, Kansas. Although he had suffered two severe strokes, prior to the one he had ten days before his passing, he had been quite cheerful, enjoyed his home even though he was quite handicapped physically. His wife, Purena, being of a pleasant and cheerful nature, made his home, in his declining years, very happy. He is survived by his wife, Purena; one son, Lester Beamer of Guymon, Okla.; one daughter, Maud Clyne of Arnold; five grandchildren, Mary Lou and Leslie Mae Beamer; Sonja Kaye, Ricky and Tommy Clyne; one brother, Jesse Lee Beamer of Calgary, Canada; two sisters, Ola Willour of Ransom, and Erie O’Connor of Osawatomie; four step-children, Lloyd Smith of Strong City, Merlin Smith of Waverly, Raymond Smith of Ogden, Utah; and Edith Burke of Sacramento, Calif.; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in Halls Summitt. The body was escorted to Ransom by the Jones Funeral directors of Waverly. Services were also held in the First Methodist Church of Ransom, Wednesday, February 16, 1955, at 2:00 p.m., with the pastor, Rev. Hjalmar Larson, in charge of the services. Music was furnished by Jane Neyer, W.L. Dundas, George Clark, Jerry Everhart, Ralph Ummel and Mrs. Wilma Huxman. Pallbearers were Dale Combest, Tom Norton, Otto Popp, Ralph Scott, Orville Klitzke and Walter Keller. Interment was at the Ransom Cemetery. Ness Co. News, Feb. 24, 1955
