Description	:	Oscar Eugene Savedge, of Mt. Pleasant, husband of Alma Bowman Easterling Savedge, entered into eternal rest February 12, 2011. Gene was born, October 21, 1922, in Charleston, SC, son of the late O. E. Savedge and Carrie Jenkins Savedge and the grandson of the late H.B. Jenkins and Mary Eva Bailey Jenkins of Rockville, SC. While attending the Citadel, he enlisted with his entire class into the military to serve in World War II. He landed on Utah Beach during the Normandy Invasion. Pleasant, husband of Alma Bowman Easterling Savedge, entered into eternal rest February 12, 2011. Gene was born, October 21, 1922, in Charleston, SC, son of the late O. E. Savedge and Carrie Jenkins Savedge and the grandson of the late H.B. Jenkins and Mary Eva Bailey Jenkins of Rockville, SC. While attending the Citadel, he enlisted with his entire class into the military to serve in World War II. He landed on Utah Beach during the Normandy Invasion. He saw combat service in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He continued military service in the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring as a Colonel. In the fall of 2010, Gene was awarded the honorary rank of Brigadier General in the South Carolina State Guard by the Adjutant General of the State of South Carolina. After World War II, he graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law and practiced law on Broad Street in Charleston for over 40 years. Mr. Savedge served in the SC General Assembly from 1950 to 1951. He was an attorney for Charleston County Veterans Service Officers from 1956 to 1975. He served as Chief Judge of the Town of Mt. Pleasant from 1985 to 1996. Gene and his wife, Alma, travelled extensively throughout their marriage, seeing most of the world. He was a 50-year member of the Arion Society; a member of the Washington Light Infantry; the German Friendly Society; and the Quis Qui Club. He was a longtime member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alma Savedge and their two daughters, Carol S. Hawkins and husband Roy Hawkins of Mt. Pleasant, and Martha S. Cole and husband, Ron Cole of Mt. Pleasant; three grandchildren: Eugene Savedge Flanagin of Charleston; June Edwins Hawkins of Charleston; and Andrew Steely Hawkins of Mt. Pleasant; and one sister, Beulah S. Sutton, of Yorktown, VA. Internment: Christ Church Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, SC.
