Description	:	Son of Elias Smith and Mary Jane Elliott Thornton. Oscar married Lucinda Carolina Cooper on December 20, 1899. MULLINS - Oscar Fontaine Thornton, 87, died at 5 o'clock this afternoon after a period of declining health. Mr. Thornton was the oldest living tobacconist in Mullins at the time of his death. He came to Mullins many years ago and helped manage the first tobacco warehouse in Mullins. He continued in the tobacco business until his health failed some years ago. Mr. Thornton was the oldest living tobacconist in Mullins at the time of his death. He came to Mullins many years ago and helped manage the first tobacco warehouse in Mullins. He continued in the tobacco business until his health failed some years ago. Mr. Thornton was born in Jamestown, N.C., the son of Elias and Mary Jane Thornton. He was married to the former Lucinda Carolina Cooper of Mullins, who survives him. Also surviving are five children, Mrs. Charles Z. Flack of Forest City, N.C., Mrs. John McCarty of Wilmington, N.C., Mrs. A. F. Funkhouser of Lake Worth, Fla., Mrs. Fiske Edward Hammond of Roanoke, Va., and O. Frank Thornton of Clover, reading clerk of the state house of representatives. Funeral services will be conducted in Mullins, at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Cox Funeral Home.
