He was quite learned in mathematics. He migrated to Kansas on 07 Mar 1878 and homesteaded property in the Kaw Reservation on the Neosha river in Lyon County. His wife, Sarah Wright, acquired a farm through a legacy and with the two farms, they had quite a lot of acreage - about 400 acres. He was married 12 Mar 1885 by Judge Perington in Emporia, Kansas. _____ Death of O. J. Harris Mr. Oscar Jennings Harris was born in Cincinnatti [sic], Ohio, Oct. 20th, 1850. When he was 8 years of age his mother died, and when a young man did road construction work with his father and brother. In the spring of 1878 Mr. Harris came to Kansas and lived in his farm on Cahola creek for forty nine years. He was united in marriage to Sarah E. Wright, March 12, 1885. To this union three children were born: Mr. Lawrence Harris of Dunlap, Mr. Silas Harris of Emporia and Mrs. Sadie Gray of Americus. He joined the United Presbyterian at College Hill, Ohio, in youth with two other young men. He was preceded to the life beyond by his wife, Nov. 22, 1919. After suffering the afflictions of the flesh which held him bedfast for over six years, he departed this life Sept. 8th, 1927 at the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 18 days. His life is held in fond memory by his two sons, one daughter, four grandchildren, many relatives and a host of friends and neighbors. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon from the home. Rev. Campbell of the Dunlap M. E. Church was in charge of the services. A large crowd of mourning friends was present to pay their last respects to the departed. The choir of the Dunlap Church furnished the music. The floral dec [sic] were profuse and beautiful. The pall bearers were John Ryman, Harve Sheaffer, Frank Johnson, Harry Barrick, J. B. Pritchard and Clarence Weaver. Interment was made in the Americus cemetery. -Americus Greeting, Wednesday, September 1, 1927; p. 1, c. 4
