He received his early education at Willow Lake and also attended the Watertown Business College at Watertown, SD. In 1919, he moved to Berlin and Oct. 26, 1921 was united in marriage to Elsie Haas at Dickey. They had four children, Beatrice, who is now deceased, Donald, Kenneth and Audrey. Peterson, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Peterson, was born at Willow Lake, SD, on May 17, 1900. He received his early education at Willow Lake and also attended the Watertown Business College at Watertown, SD. In 1919, he moved to Berlin and Oct. 26, 1921 was united in marriage to Elsie Haas at Dickey. They had four children, Beatrice, who is now deceased, Donald, Kenneth and Audrey. In 1952, Mr. and Mrs. Peterson moved into LaMoure. His first wife died in 1961. In 1965, Mr. Peterson married Eva Ryder, they had continued to live in LaMoure, except for the past month when he had been hospitalized. He died on June 24 in Fargo, having reached the age of 81 years, one month, and seven days. Oscar served as township assessor for many years and also served on the LaMoure County A.S.C. committee. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church at Grand Rapids and has served on the church board. During his early years, he served with the SD home guard at Watertown. He is survived by the following: his wife, Eva, of LaMoure; one daughter Mrs. James (Audrey) Van Ornum of Granada Hills, CA; two sons: Donald of Fargo and Kenneth of Berlin; two brothers: Paul of Howard, SD and Albert Peterson of Willow Lake, SD, Mrs. Nettie Roth and Mrs. Helen Young, both of LaCrosse, WI. Twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harry & Lawrence, and his first wife. Funeral services were held at the Zion Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids on Saturday, June 27 with the Rev. Roy Grote officiating. Mrs. Curwood Seefeldt was the organist and Mrs. Art Stroh the accompanist. Mrs. Curwood Seefeldt sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Jesus, Savior Pilot Me". Emmett Haugen sang "Asleep in Jesus". The following served as casket bearers: Robert Quinlan, Glenn Witt, Jerome Seefeldt, Reinhold Just, Iri Good, and Robert Randall. Interment was in the Grand Rapids Cemetery with the Haugen Baldwin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
