Read More	Obituary: July 9, 1895; Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette On Wednesday morning, June 26, at 3:20 o'clock, death visited the home of Mrs. Alice Firkins, just three weeks after the marriage of her daughter Effie to James Park, and took from her flock Otis, a young man twenty-one years of age. It was while assisting in the arrangement of the home for the newly wedded pair that that terrible malady, typhoid fever, laid its merciless grip upon the strong and athletic body of this young man and its cruel inroads baffled all that a vigorous constitution, the best of medical skill and the loving and faithful care of a mother and sisters could bring to bear to arrest its progress. In just two weeks its work was done and Otis was no more with us. On Thursday morning at ten o'clock, after a funeral service at the home, conducted by Rev. L. W. Winslow of Cedar Rapids, the bereaved family and a large number of sorrowing and sympathizing friends followed all that remained of our friend to the Fairfax cemetery where he was laid to rest beside his father. In the character of Otis these noble traits were strikingly prominent, he was a loving and obedient son, a kind and affectionate brother, and a cordial and obliging friend. His departure leaves a sorrow in the hearts of his many friends which only the lapse of years can obliterate.
