He was born on Jan. 12, 1923, to Ernest H. and Zora (Smith) Melton at Newburg, Ark., and was raised and attended school in Brockwell, Ark. "Pete" Melton, 73, a longtime Wenatchee resident, died Saturday, March 23, 1996, at Central Washington Hospital following an extended illness. He was born on Jan. 12, 1923, to Ernest H. and Zora (Smith) Melton at Newburg, Ark., and was raised and attended school in Brockwell, Ark. He then served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Mackay, Idaho, for one year. On Feb. 22, 1943, he joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed in the Philippines and received his honorable discharge on Jan. 18, 1946. On Oct. 23, 1946, he married Cornelia Foust at Melbourne, Ark. They made their home at Brockwell until moving to Wenatchee in 1953, where Mr. Melton began working at Alcoa. He retired from there in 1984. Mr. Melton was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a 30-year member of the Aluminum, Brick and Glass Workers Union, Local No. 310. Survivors include his wife, Cornelia, Wenatchee; two sons, John and Donald, both of Wenatchee; two daughters, Connie Melton, White Swan, and Bonnie Melton, Wenatchee; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, two brothers, one sister and one grandson. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
