Description	:	Otto Russell Handy, son of Joseph and Tillie Handy, was born at Beldon, Nebraska on January 4, 1903 and passed away at his home in Harlan, Iowa on April 22, 1954 at the age of 51 years, 3 months and 18 days. He came to Harlan when a small child and has spent his entire life in this community. He graduated from Harlan High School in 1920. He was married to Mary Jemima Miles of Kirkman, Iowa on February 9, 1924. To this union four children were born, three of whom survive. They are Mrs Loa Dell Edwards of Riverton, Wyoming; Mrs Donna Jean Dickinsen of Stanhope, Iowa and Terry Russell Handy of Harlan. James Russell preceded his father in death in 1934. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Mary and his three children, also his mother, Mrs Tillie Handy of Knoxville, Iowa, two sisters, Mrs Alma Cox of Knoxville and Mrs Edna Billmeyer of Cumberland, Md., one brother, William J. of Harlan and one half brother, Leo Handy of Fremont, Nebraska and three grandchildren, Mary, John and Robert Edwards of Riverton, Wyoming. Russell has been employed by the city of Harlan since June 1925. He has worked as operating engineer in the Municipal Light Plant since the plant opened in 1929. He has been a member of the Harlan Methodist Church since youth. He joined the Harlan Odd Fellows Lodge in 1944 and has served as recording secretary of that Order for the past several years. Funeral services were held at Pauley's funeral home Monday afternoon, with the Rev. Lawrence Beals in charge. Burial was in the Harlan cemetery. The Harlan Tribune Harlan, Iowa April 30, 1954
