Description	:	Otto Wilhelm Sophus Jensen was born in Grammdorf, Germany and moved to the U.S. as an adult. He met his wife Elizabeth Miller Smith on November 7th, 1871 in Washington, Iowa. They lived in Washington and Boone, Iowa, then moved to Nebraska. Otto developed lung fever and could never again talk clearly. They lived in Grand Island, Columbus, Humphrey, Norfolk, and Stromsburg. While in Columbus, they put their three children in the Catholic school. Read More	Otto Wilhelm Sophus Jensen was born in Grammdorf, Germany and moved to the U.S. as an adult. He met his wife Elizabeth Miller Smith on November 7th, 1871 in Washington, Iowa. They lived in Washington and Boone, Iowa, then moved to Nebraska. Otto developed lung fever and could never again talk clearly. They lived in Grand Island, Columbus, Humphrey, Norfolk, and Stromsburg. While in Columbus, they put their three children in the Catholic school. In Norfolk Otto was a salesman for Marshall and other nurseries. In Stromsburg, he drove a wagon selling Watkins products. While they lived in Stromsburg, within ten months time, their daughter Alice married Loren Willey at Stromsburg; their son John Theodore married Emma Sinkula at Stanton; and their son James married Hattie Wollschlager at Hoskins, Nebraska. The kids and their spouses all moved to Fairfax, South Dakota. About a year later, Otto and Elizabeth moved to be near their children. Together, Otto and Elizabeth and the Willey parents built the European Hotel in Burke in 1905, and both couples had nice homes. At the opening of Gregory County, Otto and his wife took a 160-acre homestead, which they referred to as the Coon Creek Claim; it was fourteen miles northeast of Burke. Before his death in 1916, Otto was baptized Catholic and he was buried along side his wife in the Catholic Cemetery in Burke, South Dakota. He left the farm and hotel to Theodore and Emma and Alice and Loren. Johanna was the daughter of Claus Heinrich Schmidt and Christina Margaretha Bielfeld Schmidt. Johanna's father, Claus, was the schoolmaster at Grammdorf. After he died in 1838, Johann (Johanna's husband) succeeded him as schoolmaster at Grammdorf. Father: Johann Theodor Jensen (John Theodore Jensen in America) Born March 31st, 1810 in Grammdorf, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany to Anna Catherina Dorothea Jahn Jensen and Gabriel Jensen who was an organist and a schoolmaster at Grossenflintbeck, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany. Anna was Gabriel's second wife and Johann/ John was their only son. Gabriel died when Johann was an infant and his mother Anna remarried. His stepfather's name was Hans Hack, a wealthy farmer of Stohl, Holstein, Germany. His stepfather gave Johann a good education. And at 22 years of age, Johann became an organist and schoolmaster at Hohenstein, Holstein. On July 23, 1833 Johann married Johanna Dorothea Wilhelmina Schmidt and after her father died in 1838, he became the schoolmaster at Grammdorf. He continued doing this until 1854 when he migrated with his family to Iowa, where he bought an 80-acre farm in Bluegrass Township, Scott County, Iowa, six miles west of Davenport. In 1865, Johanna died and Johann moved in with Otto and his wife Elizabeth for awhile. While there he taught his son's wife, Elizabeth, how to speak and write German. In 1867 Johann sold the farm and moved to Iowa City and bought 170 acres 3 1/2 miles from town. He died on May 14th, 1879 in Iowa City. NOTE: There is no gravestone
