F. & A. M., funeral services were conducted in Holyoke Sunday afternoon for Otto Redies, 41, Holyoke stockman, who died Thursday morning as a result of injuries received the previous day in an automobile accident three miles west of Haxtun in Logan County The funeral service was held at 2:00 o'clock at the Baptist church. The sermon was preached by the church pastor, Rev. Dayton P. Muxlow. Prayer was read by Rev. Clare J. Hayes, pastor of the Methodist church. A mixed quartet composed of Dr. P.S. Struble, G.L. Bereman and Misses Thelma and Ruth Clayton sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "In the Sweet By and By." Misses Thelma and Ruth Clayton sang as a duet, "Sweet Peace, the Gift of God's Love." Piano accompaniments were played by Mrs. P.S. Struble. Remainder of the funeral service was conducted by the Masonic lodge, under direction of Ralph L. Anderson. Final Rites were conducted by the lodge at the grave. Prayer was read by Rev. Hayes. Serving as the pallbearers were six fraternal organization members, Ray E. Crosby, A.F. Scheunemann, Henry T. Gassert, Theodore C. Steinigeweg, Ed Hethcote and Glenn Rouze. Out-of-town relatives and friends attending the funeral were Mrs. H. Ray Johnston and daughter, Helen and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Redies of Inglewood, California, Mrs. Albert Heermann and son, Charles, of Ault, Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Boney and son, James of Plainview, Texas, Max and Harold Fulscher of Granby, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fulscher of Big Spring, Nebraska, Miss Florence Fulscher of Alamosa, and Mr. and Mrs. Julius Hews of Sundance, Wyoming. Otto Redies, son of the late Charles Redies and Mrs. Bertha (Fulscher) Redies of Holyoke, was born April 26, 1899 near Crete, Nebraska. When he was five months old, his parents moved to northeastern Colorado and settled in the Holyoke community, where he had since made his home. At the time of his death he was 41 years, seven months and 16 days. He attended the Holyoke High School and then entered the Grand Island, Nebraska Business College, where he completed a course in business administration. He graduated from the Reppert School of Auctioneering in Decatur, Indiana in 1930. The marriage of Otto Redies to Miss Beulah Boney of Plainview, Texas was performed at Clovis, New Mexico, June 3, 1931. The married life of Mr. and Mrs. Redies with the exception of two years was spent in the Holyoke community. They spent two years in Clinton, Indiana, returning to Holyoke in 1937. The deceased had made as his life work the breeding and raising of purebred cattle. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith, but joined the Methodist church upon his confession of faith in 1924. Mr. Redies became affiliated with the Holyoke Lodge No. 81 A. F. & A. M. in 1928. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Beulah Redies, and a son, Rex, 6, of Holyoke; his mother, Mrs. Bertha Redies, Holyoke; two brothers, Henry C. Redies of Holyoke, and Walter Redies of Inglewood, California; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Heermann of Ault and Mrs. Clara Johnston of Inglewood, California and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Pearl, who died March 17, 1908 and his father, Charles Redies, who died October 23, 1927. Mr. Redies died at 6 o'clock Thursday morning at the Holyoke hospital. His death resulted from a crushing skull fracture of the right frontal parietal region which he suffered in the collision of his automobile and one driven by Leo Kumpitch of Haxtun Wednesday afternoon on Highway No. 6 west of Haxtun. Killed instantly in the accident were Helen Kumpitch, 9, and her nephew, Frank Kumpitch, 18 months. Mrs. I.R. Smith, 64, died late Thursday evening at the Haxtun hospital, and her grandson, Leo Kumpitch, died Saturday evening at the hospital. Four generations of Mrs. Smith's family were riding in the automobile which collided with Redies' machine. Still under treatment in hospitals for injuries received in the crash are Mrs. Beulah Redies, Mrs. Bessie Kumpitch and her daughter, Lois, and Mrs. Leo Kumpitch. Mrs. Redies is a patient in the Holyoke hospital suffering with fractures of both legs and other bodily bruises and injuries. Her condition is satisfactory. Mrs. Bessie Kumpitch lies in critical condition in the Haxtun hospital, she having suffered compound fractures of both legs and internal injuries. Lois Kumpitch, who sustained a leg fracture and cuts and bruises, and Mrs. Leo Kumpitch, who was severely cut, are making recovery. Cars in the fatal accident, one of the most tragic in the history of northeastern Colorado, met on the snow covered pavement of the highway. Officers who investigated the accident declared that the severity of injuries of the nine persons involved was shocking. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ He signed a WWI draft registration card September 12, 1918 at Holyoke, Phillips County, Colorado giving his date of birth as April 26, 1899.
