Read More	Parke Knutson Dies After Long Illness Parke C Knutson, son of Mrs Henrietta Knutson of Soldier, passed away quite suddenly Sunday afternoon at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. Although he had been a patient in the hospital most of the time since he returned from service in World War II and had not been feeling as good as usual the past two months, his death came as a shock to his relatives and friends. It was while serving overseas in the Italian campaign that he contracted his illness, which did not show up until 1948. Ever since that time he has been a hospital patient, with improvements and setbacks quite frequent. Last summer he appeared definitely on the mend and came home for two weeks. Parke farmed with his parents prior to his army duty. Funeral services were held at the Soldier Lutheran (south) Church on Wednesday, October 31 with pastor John C Kilde giving the sermon. The Soldier Legion Post had charge of full military rites. Burial was in Soldier Valley Cemetery under the direction of Oldham Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Clay Norby, Martin Hanson, Clifford Longlee, Bryce Lee, Art Olson and Chris T Olson. Honorary pallbearers were Elmer C Lee, George Lee, Bennett Hagen, Adolph Hagen, Andrew Ballantyne, Ed Erickson and Martin Kalskett. Parke C Knutson, son of the late Peter C Knutson and Henrietta Knutson was born June 16, 1907 at Soldier, Iowa and passed away October 28, 1956 at 2:35 p.m. at the Veteran's hospital in Minneapolis, Minn at the age of 49 years 4 months and 12 days. He was baptized and confirmed in the Soldier Lutheran Church. He attended the Soldier school and graduated with the class of 1926. On Jan. 8, 1946 he was united in marriage to Mary Frances Longlee at the church in Soldier. He was in the service of his country for 4 1/2 years of which half of this time was spent in overseas duty. It was during this period that he contracted his illness which had confined him to the Veterans hospital for the past 8 1/2 years. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Mary of Sioux City; his mother, Henrietta Knutson of Soldier; two sisters, Genevieve (Mrs Wilton McDole) of Dunlap and LaVonne (Mrs John Wade) of Soldier; two brothers, Glen, of KeWanee, Ill., and Wyland of Soldier, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
