Description	:	Parker Lee Henderson was born to Herman and Eva Henderson in Miami, Florida on November 29, 1924. After graduating from high school in Alachua, Florida, Parker enlisted in the US Army and served honorably as a medic in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was stationed briefly at Camp Barkley near Abilene, Texas, and enrolled in Abilene Christian College after being discharged from the army. He received his degree in Secondary Education. Read More	Parker Lee Henderson was born to Herman and Eva Henderson in Miami, Florida on November 29, 1924. After graduating from high school in Alachua, Florida, Parker enlisted in the US Army and served honorably as a medic in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was stationed briefly at Camp Barkley near Abilene, Texas, and enrolled in Abilene Christian College after being discharged from the army. He received his degree in Secondary Education. Parker had always been interested in spiritual matters, but his time as a soldier in Asia helped to propel him to a life of service as a missionary. In 1957, Parker and Donna left churches they were serving in Florida to prepare for a move to Bangkok, Thailand in early 1958. They were supported for 24 years by the University Avenue Church of Christ in Austin Texas. During that time Parker rotated through three cycles of teaching and recruiting missionaries at the Sunset School of Preaching (now Sunset International Bible Institute) in Lubbock, Texas. In 1979, the family moved to Trinidad, West Indies, where he directed the Trinidad School of Preaching until they returned to the family farm near Perry, Florida in 2009. Parker and Donna moved back to Lubbock in 2013, living closer to family until Parker's death on Thursday, June 22, 2017. He was 92 years old. Parker and Donna's love for Jesus Christ compelled them to serve as Christian missionaries outside the United States for more than 50 years. They were deeply appreciated by both their supporters and those they served. Special recognition included 1979 Servant Award (Somprasong Church of Christ, Bangkok) 1981 Alumnus of the Year (Abilene Christian University) 2008 Crystal Globe Award for Distinguished Service in World Missions (Missions Resource Network) 2009 Recognition of 30 Years Service (San Fernando Church of Christ, Trinidad) 2011 Special Servant (Asia Missions Forum, Chiangmai) 2014 Global Servant Award (Sunset International Bible Institute) 2017 Hogan-Cate Asian Missions Award (Harding University) Parker is survived by a loving family: wife Donna; five children, Larry Henderson and wife Pam, Jeanie Allison and husband Danny, Rebecca Talley and husband Tim, Priscilla Jones and husband Mike, and Timothy Henderson and wife Mary; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Interment will be at the family cemetery in North Florida. Parker Henderson, former teacher at SIBI finished his earthly ministry today and has entered his eternal home. Parker was a missionary in Thailand for twenty years and then spent thirty years serving in Trinidad. He taught at Sunset for relatively short stints and always took a team he personally recruited back to the mission field with him. Parker, along with his wife Donna, had moved back to Lubbock several years ago and was living in a private nursing home. This dear brother will be missed by people he led to Christ in a number of countries and by a host of other brethren and friends. Visitation will be at 10AM on Monday, June 26 with services at 11AM in the Sunset Church of Christ Auditorium.
