Her memorial service will be Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Powers Lake, ND. Patricia (Pat) was born Aug 18th, 1942 to Vernon and Afton (Tuttle) Hanson in New England, ND and left us Oct 22, 2014 at her home in Stanley, ND. She graduated from New England High School in 1960. Following graduation, Pat attended Jamestown College for one year and then attended Dickinson State College earning degrees in English, Social Studies and German. Pat met the love of her life, James Eckert, Jr. from Bowbells, ND, and they were married June 1, 1974. Together they raised their five children: Merry, Douglas, Crystal, Melanie and Miles. Pat had several careers over the years. She taught school for 21 years, was County Superintendent of Schools for 6 years, managed a Forest Service campground in SD, worked as a cashier, nanny, car sales delivery person and even a carnival worker. When she finally retired, she had been working at St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Dickinson, ND. She enjoyed reading, sewing, working puzzles and playing scrabble with her mother. She enjoyed life and loved people and animals. Pat always seemed to have a special place in her heart for others including her foster daughter, students who needed a ride somewhere, cats and dogs that seemed to end up at her house from Jenny, her first dachshund and to Trash, the puppy she found in a dumpster! She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon; husband, James; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James, Sr. and Vera; sisters-in-law, Irene and Mary Lou.
