She died at the Gordon Countryside Care on July 10, 2012 at the age 85.Pat was the youngest of 3 children born to George Walter and Hazel Gertrude (Malone) Stout. Her Dad was retired from the US Army so she lived in various places while growing up. Some of those places included Little Rock, Arkansas, Washington state and Fullerton, NE. She graduated from North East High School in Lincoln in 1945. On Nov. 29, 1947 she married George William Sweeney in Lincoln, NE. George and Pat moved to Gordon, NE. in 1950 where they were involved in farming and raising 7 children. They moved away from Gordon in 1970, living in Casper, Gillette, and Ogallala. They moved to Sidney in 1976. Pat worked in the dietary department at Sidney Memorial Hospital for several years. She was a member of DOES #94, VFW #17, SSO, St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Sidney & lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Gordon Post #34. In September of 2004 she moved to Gordon to be closer to her children and grandchildren. While in Gordon she was an active member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Red Hat Society and Gordon American Legion Auxiliary. In June of 2005 she moved to Parkview Lodge Assisted Living in Rushville, NE. and Gordon Countryside Care in 2007 where she lived until her death. Pat did not have an easy life. At the age of 25 she suffered a debilitating stroke and spent several months in rehabilitation. Her Dad was instrumental in teaching her to read, write and feed herself all over again. She went on to raise a family of 7 children. When it came time for her to enter the nursing home, she did so without complaining. She was always grateful for the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff of GCC. She set a good example for others by accepting life's challenges with a smile on her face. Her husband, George, brother, George Mathew Stout, mother, father and granddaughter, Monica Sweeney, preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Scherr (Al) of Gordon, and Suzanne Becker (Terry) of Cheyenne, Wy. Five sons, George Sweeney of Rushville, NE, Pat Sweeney of Gillette, WY, Mike Sweeney (Julie) of Norfolk, NE, Jerry Sweeney of Gillette, WY and Dennis Sweeney (Raquel) of Pleasant Dale, NE, 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, her sister, Mary Stout of Lincoln, NE, 3 nephews and 1 niece. Funeral services will be held at Chamberlain Pier chapel on Friday, July 13, 2012, with Father James Joseph officiating. Burial will be at the Gordon Cemetery.
