Description	:	Patricia Louise Gibson-Schmitt, 79, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 at The Residency in Scottsbluff. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Mitchell with Fr. Thomas Gudipalli as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mitchell City Cemetery.. A rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Lions Eye Bank or to The Residency Care Center. Pat was born on May 30, 1933 to Lester and Anne (Dowling) Gibson in Chadron, Nebraska. She attended grades one through twelve at Assumption Academy in Chadron, graduating in 1951. Pat attended St. Joseph Nursing School in Omaha completing her RN and graduating in 1953. She met her husband Larry while he was attending Creighton University and they were married April 2nd, 1956. To this union four children were born, Lorraine, Stephen, Maureen and Michael. Pat practiced nursing for 50 years. She had many co-workers over the years that she considered dear friends, retiring in 2003 from surgery at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Pat was a gifted gardener, seamstress and quilter. With love she sewed for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, co-workers and neighbors. Survivors include her children, Lorraine (Bill) Hendrickson of Mitchell, Stephen (Patty) Schmitt of Ogallala, Maureen Merritt of Alliance, and Michael (Glenda) Schmitt of Torrington; grandchildren, Cara Lee, Patrick Schmitt, Caisha (Kerry) King, Courtney Lee, Morgan (Michael) Philpot, Sam Schmitt, Coltan Merritt, Jacob, Ellie, and Marjie Schmitt; great-grandchildren, Ronin, Kelton, Amaliya, Killian and Felix; nephews and nieces, Jim (Nancy) Bishop, Peggy Moran, Bob (Madeline) Bishop, John Bishop, and Laura Bishop; cousin, Nancy Jo (Jim) Keeran and their families; and the dear friends and caring staff at The Residency. Preceding Pat in death were her parents; sister, Mary Anne; niece, Becky Crew; and her husband of 53 years, Larry. She left her part of the world a more beautiful place than she found it.
