Born Sept. 5, 1933, in Green Spring, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George F. and Nellie (Gross) Fredman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Carder, 85, of Oldtown, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2019, at home. Born Sept. 5, 1933, in Green Spring, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George F. and Nellie (Gross) Fredman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Carder, and one brother, James E. Fredman and wife, Genevieve. Patricia graduated from Paw Paw High School in Paw Paw, W.Va., in 1951. She went on to attend Catherman's Business School, and she eventually earned a psychology degree from Allegany College of Maryland. She was a retired L.P.N. from Cumberland Nursing Center, and she worked at Memorial Hospital. Patricia and her husband also owned and operated Oldtown Exxon Service Station, Oldtown, for several years. Patricia was a member of the Oldtown United Methodist Church, Schoolhouse Quilters, and Cumberland Piece Makers. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary of Cumberland and member of the Women of the Moose. Patricia was an avid book reader and loved to play the piano. Surviving are three daughters, Donna L. Morton and husband, John, Short Gap, W.Va., Tamala S. Carder, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Jennifer C. Slemmer, Cumberland; one sister, Agnes Morral, Cumberland; three grandchildren, Terin M. Fetty and husband, Chuck, Leesburg, Va., Nicole D. Morton, Ridgeley, W.Va., and Cambryane T. Slemmer, Cumberland; and two great-grandchildren, Skyla and Piper. Patricia stayed with and was cared for by her daughter, Jennifer, and granddaughter, Cambryane, until the very end. At Patricia's request, her body will be cremated. Memorial services will be held at Oldtown United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at noon. Inurnment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, Flinstone, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Donald L. Carder. Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., is entrusted with arrangements. The family would like to thank everyone for all of their thoughts and prayers throughout the years. They would also like to thank each of the providers who showed compassion and care at WMHS, Lions Center, and Devlin Manor while Patricia resided there for rehabilitation. Thank you most of all to Robert Mallery for his friendship to the family, which will never be forgotten.
