Donald was born in Cumberland on Feb. 10, 1928, to the late Floyd L. Carder and Evelyn B. Evans Carder. Three brothers, Robert Carder, Raymond "Bob" Carder and Charles F. Read More	OLDTOWN,MARYLAND — Donald Lee Carder, age 81 (1928-2010), of Oldtown, passed away in the early morning hours to be with his Lord on Feb. 8, 2010, at the Golden Living Center, Winifred Road, Cumberland. Donald was born in Cumberland on Feb. 10, 1928, to the late Floyd L. Carder and Evelyn B. Evans Carder. Three brothers, Robert Carder, Raymond "Bob" Carder and Charles F. Carder preceded him in death. Donald attended Oldtown School and Fort Hill High School, Cumberland. At the age of 15, he began employment with the Western Maryland Railroad. Thereof at the age of 17, Donald enlisted to serve in the United States Navy in World War II. He served aboard the US Franklin D. Roosevelt and the U.S. Kennebec. Mr. Carder was awarded the World War II Victory Metal, American Theatre Metal, China Service Metal, Navy Occupational Metal and Good Conduct Metal. After serving in the United States Navy, Mr. Carder became employed with the B&O Railroad/CSX for over 50 years until retiring as foreman in 1993. Mr. Carder also served as union representative for the railroad. Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman, often traveling to New York and Canada with his friends to hunt and fish. He loved the outdoors and during the day, you could drive by his home to see him working in his garden and taking care of his lawn. He was a collector by nature. Donald was a member of the Oldtown United Meth-odist Church. He was also a member of the Oldtown V.F.W. and American Legion, Cumberland. Donald designed and constructed three of the homes he provided for his family. He and his wife also owned and operated Oldtown Exxon Service Station, Oldtown. Donald is survived by his loving and devoted wife for 57 years, Patricia Fredman Carder. Patricia stayed by his side and faithfully cared for him until the very end. He is also survived by three daughters, Donna L. Morton and husband John, Short Gap, W.Va., Tamala S. Carder, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Jennifer Carder Slemmer, Cumberland. He is survived by three beautiful granddaughters whom he loved very deeply, Terin Morton Langley, Nicole Morton and Cambryane T. Slemmer. In the later years of his life, he was brought much fulfillment and love spending time with his youngest granddaughter, Cambryane Slemmer, and he was very fond of her golden retriever, Rasckal. At Donald's request, Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland , will cremate his body. Committal services will be held at Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, Flintstone, at a later date due to the weather preventing family members traveling from Idaho and other distant destinations. A later announcement will be made. The family would like to thank everyone for all their thoughts and prayers throughout the years. An expression of sincere appreciation to the medical staff of Western Maryland Health System ICU, Emergency Room, Progressive Care Unit, High Level Care, and Rehabilitation Unit for their extreme compassion and care to Donald through this difficult time, and also to each of the providers who showed compassion and care at the Golden Living Center. But most of all, to the Rev. Charles Riggleman and his wife Jane, Kevin Bender and Robert Mallery for their friendship to Donald and his family which will never be forgotten. The family graciously re-quests their friends and relatives desiring to honor Donald's memory to please send contributions to Oldtown United Methodist Church, Oldtown, MD.
