In December of that same year he was taken prisoner by... Read More	* IN LOVING MEMORY OF ** Paul E. Brewster was born on Friday; April 3, 1908 in Laurens; Pocahontas County, Iowa. He was the son of: Ethan Elbert and Belle Eliza (Belden) Brewster. Paul's entire life was spent in this community with the exception of two years at Woodbine; Harrison County, Iowa and four years during World War II. During his early childhood he became a member of the Methodist Church in Laurens, Iowa. In October of 1941 he joined the civilian construction workers and was sent to Wake Island. In December of that same year he was taken prisoner by the Japanese, and he was held by them for 44 months in China and Japan. He was released in October of 1945. On Nov. 18, 1946, he was united in marriage to Dorthea Christenson. They are the parents of two children, Betty, age: 13 and Bruce, age: 6. Paul E. Brewster, age: 53, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday; July 9, 1961 of an aparent heart attack on his farm home west of Laurens, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are: His wife and children; his mother: Mrs. Belle Brewster of Laurens, Iowa. His one brother: LeRoy Brewster of Newell; Buena Vista County, Iowa and his one sister: Faye (Mrs. Harold) Hakeman of Waukee; Dallas County, Iowa. His father; his one brother: Elbert; and his one sister: Lydia, preceded him in death. May they rest in peace. May God bless his memory and give strength to those that mourn. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday; July 12, 1961 at the Laurens Methodist Church with the Reverend H. Milo Hall, pastor of the Havelock and Plover Methodist Churches, officiating. Interment was in the Laurens Cemetery. The Hitchcock Funeral was entrusted with the arrangements and the care of the family.
