Description	:	Paul E. Scholfield, 89, died at 8:40 p.m. Nov. 1, 2010, at St. Rita's Hospice. He was born May 2, 1921, in Lima to Charlie and Katie McClain Scholfield, who preceded him in death. On May 23, 1946, he married Helen M. Driver. She was his sweetheart for more than 64 years. Mr. Scholfield retired from Westinghouse Electric Corp., Lima. He was born May 2, 1921, in Lima to Charlie and Katie McClain Scholfield, who preceded him in death. On May 23, 1946, he married Helen M. Driver. She was his sweetheart for more than 64 years. Mr. Scholfield retired from Westinghouse Electric Corp., Lima. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant in the China-Burma-India Theater. He served as an Elida councilman from 1969 to 1973, and was council president in his last year. He then became the mayor of Elida in 1973, filling an unexpired term and was elected to three more terms serving until 1988. He had also been a floral designer at Mohler's Flowers. In 1989, he began volunteering at Lima Memorial Hospital, where he became treasurer of the gift shop in 1992. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Elida. Survivors also include four children, Cathy (Ralph) Knauer, of Cincinnati, Michael (Lynn) Scholfield, of Lima, Debi Scholfield, of Columbus, and Rick Scholfield, of Lima; four grandchildren, Brett Knauer, of Cincinnati, Jodi (Matthew) Darlage, of Alexandria, Va., Lori (Phillip) Fricks, of Cicero, Ind., and Jenifer (Steve) Smith, of New Haven, Ind.; close friend of the family, Julia Gable, of Bluffton; and a sister-in-law, Jeanne Scholfield, of Wirtz, Va. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Scholfield; and a sister, Pauline (Karl) Gable. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home. The Rev. James Kuhn will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Elida, with military rites by VFW Post 1275. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lima Memorial Health System Auxiliary Gift Shop or the charity of the donor's choice.
