Clark, son of B.L. and Bessie Clark, was born August 19, 1899, at New Market, Iowa and died Wednesday, April 3, 1946, at 8:30 pm at the St Mary's hospital, Rochester, Minn at the age of 46 years, 7 months and 14 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Holly Herren at Villisca, Iowa, November 23, 1920. To this union one son James, was born August 3, 1926. A niece Joyce Herren has made her home with them since October, 1936. His mother and brother, Bobbie, preceded him in death. Paul has lived his entire life in New Market attending school here and since 1923 has been associated with his father in the mercantile business. He was a member of the Baptist church of New Market. He was always keenly interested in civic activities and has served his community as member of the school board, city councilman, Republican committeeman, Masonic Lodge treasurer of the local Red Cross organization for years and a member of the local fire department for many years, and was an honorary member at the time of his death. Paul loved his home and family and was of a kind disposition, always ready to help anyone in need. Although suffering poor health the last few years, he was very patient and cheerful through it all. One of his happiest days was last fall when he and Mrs Clark celebrated their Silver wedding anniversary. He had gone to Rochester February 16, 1946, and was operated on February 28. He recovered sufficiently to leave the hospital in three weeks, but soon suffered a relapse from which he never recovered. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife Holly, a son, James, his father, B.L. Clark, one sister, Mrs Mildred Shore, of Superior, Iowa, a niece, Joyce Herren, several nieces and nephews, many other relatives and a host of friends. The funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday, April 7, at the Baptist church conducted by the Rev O.H. Hallgrimson, pastor of the Baptist church at Bedford, assisted by Miss Rose Mace, pastor of the New Market Methodist church. Music was furnished by Mrs W.D. Peve of Hopkins, Mo, accompanied by Mrs Ben Anderson. The honorary pall bearers were Wilbur Novinger, Ben Anderson, J.G. Handford, M.E. Pace, Ralph Pendergraft and Kenneth Hankins. The casket bearers were Harry Cole, John McNees, Charles Wilson, Fred Smith, John Hipsley and Marion Jetton. The flowers were cared for by Misses Opal Wallace, Flossie Osborn, Ardith Moore, Mrs Gladys Carpenter and Mrs Harryette Brummett. The ushers were Everett Godfrey and Noel Carpenter. Interment was in Memory cemetery with Masonic ceremonies.
