He was born May 13, 1928, in Salina to Evert A. and Emma Lucile (Smith) Ruggels. He lived most of his life in the Natoma community, graduating from Natoma High School. He attended Kansas State University and Fort Hays State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He married Thurlene J. Larkins on June 22, 1952, in Courtland. The family owned and operated First National Bank, Natoma, for many years. For the past several years, they had expanded their banking interests to include Russell. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Rotary Club, Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Shrine Club, all of Russell, Consistory and Isis Shrine, Salina, and Lions Club, Natoma. Survivors include his wife, Russell; two sons, Tom, University Place, Wash., and Vance, Russell; two daughters, Paula Hachmeister, Codell, and Pam Eickhoff, Natoma; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank, and infant, Harold. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church, Russell, with the Revs. Michael Fibranz and Henry Hartman officiating; burial in the Natoma Cemetery.
