Description	:	Paul Henry "Shorty" Stevenson, 86, a retired farmer passed away at this home in Arbela, Missouri, on December 24, 1994. Paul was born July 22, 1908, the son of Arthur Samuel and Martha Heisie Stevenson in Van Buren County, near Bonaparte, Iowa. He was raised and schooled in and around this area. Paul was born July 22, 1908, the son of Arthur Samuel and Martha Heisie Stevenson in Van Buren County, near Bonaparte, Iowa. He was raised and schooled in and around this area. On June 13, 1931, Paul and Florence Gertrude Jansen were united in marriage in the Methodist Parsonage in Luray, Missouri, with Rev. Harp officiating. In September, 1931 they set up housekeeping on her great-grandparents, Joshua and Martha Hughes' farm east of Azen, Missouri, in Scotland County, where they farmed for 39 years. Shorty sheared sheep for 13 years, worked for the ASC Office 22 years, served as 4-H project leader, Prospect Grove School Board secretary until the school closed, Mt. Moriah Cemetery Board member and was an avid square dancer in his younger years. After moving to Arbela in 1970 he continued to enjoy fishing, trapping, hunting, and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Florence, of 63 years; three children, Pauline Joy Childress, Durham, Missouri; Richard Henry and wife, Twila, Arbela, Missouri; and Betty Lou Burcham, and husband, Jim, Walnut Grove, Missouri; 10 grandchildren, Joyce Logan, Ewing, Missouri; Dr. Gene Childress, Lewistown, Missouri; Kitty Shults, Ewing, Missouri; Veda Shults and Pamela Whittaker, Quincy, Illinois; Judy Bowen, Mt. Sterling, Iowa; Charles Stevenson, Keosauqua, Iowa; Kay Long, Gary and Randy Burcham, Walnut Grove, Missouri; 21 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Miller, Tishomingo, Mississippi and Gertrude Williams, Boulder, City, Nebraska; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother Basil D. "Hi" Stevenson; two sisters, Mae Jones and Florence Beggs; three grandchildren, one great great grandchild; and a son-in-law, Herbert Childress. Funeral services will be held in the Payne Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, December 28, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Ernest Deatrick officiating, assisted by Brother Kenneth Rush. Soloist will be Marilyn Kittle and the organist, Arleta Dye, Pallbearers will be his hunting friends, Roland Meyer, Overland, Missouri; Ronald Meyer, Manchester, Missouri; Kenneth Meyer and James Kice, St. Charles, Missouri; and Chris Montgomery, Arbela, Missouri. Honorary bearers will be Harold Daggs, Leland Dannenhauer, Quentin Jones, Gene Durham, Paul Franklin, Dean Roberts, and John Schleeter. Interment will be in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery, north of Arbela, Missouri. The family has suggested memorials to the Mt. Moriah Cemetery Association and may be left at the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, Missouri.
