Description	:	Paul Herman Rasmussen, 85, of Longview, died June 30, 2001, at home. Mr. Rasmussen was born March 19, 1916, in Reedley, Calif., to Henry Peter and Lena (Lehman) Rasmussen. He was raised in Kalama, coming from California, and graduated from Kalama High School in 1933. He joined the Marines on Aug. 13, 1934. Mr. Rasmussen was born March 19, 1916, in Reedley, Calif., to Henry Peter and Lena (Lehman) Rasmussen. He was raised in Kalama, coming from California, and graduated from Kalama High School in 1933. He joined the Marines on Aug. 13, 1934. He was a "China Marine", stationed in China and the Philippines and traveled to many other countries. Mr. Rasmussen retired in 1981 after 20 years with the North Pacific Grain Elevator. He was a member of the International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union and was president for many of his years while he worked at the grain elevator. He enjoyed woodworking, building cabinets and traveling. He traveled to Alaska several times and went sport fishing with his son there. He also went to New Zealand with his children, as well as trips to Denmark and Hawaii. Mr. Rasmussen enjoyed working his 30 acre farm in Kalama, and he was instrumental in establishing the Cloverdale Water District. He was a member of the Kalama Lions Club and served as a Boy Scout leader. He was a devoted husband and father. Mr Rasmussen is survived by three sons, Earl "Skip" Rasmussen of Medina, Wash., Michael Rasmussen of Kodiak, Alaska, and Paul "Chris" Rasmussen of Tigard, Ore.; four daughters, Patti Nicholson of Kelso, Kathleen Schieber of Vancouver, Susan Hecht of Maple Valley, Wash., and Elizabeth Barkas of Buckley, Wash.; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He and Frieda Morley were married Dec. 19, 1937, in Gardena, Calif. She prededed him in death on Sept. 25, 1995. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Louis Rasmussen, a sister, Esther Kramer, a granddaughter, and two geat-grandsons. A graveside service and interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Cowlitz View Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Canterbury Chateau.
