He married Martha Brown Oct. 9th 1855, and was for some years in the merchantile business in Peshtigo, Wis., and was a sufferer by the terrible fires that swept over that State a few years ago. After his misfortunes in Wisconsin, he returned to his native town and opened a store at the East Village, where he continued in business until his death. He had the confidence of the citizens of Poultney, and his loss will be felt by his village, and more especially by his afflicted family."
