Memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 31, at 10 a.m. at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee. Mr. Gregg Johnson will Officiate. There Will be military rites at the cemetery by L. A. Wescott VFW Post #2253. The Boothby Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Hoxsie was born January 15,1923 at Marcus, Iowa to Sherman and Almeda (Conley) Hoxsie-Nelson. He lived in Marcus until he was 14 years old when they moved to Cherokee. He graduated from Wilson High School in Cherokee in 1943. On March 1, 1944 he married to Marjorie. Sleezer at Pueblo, Colorado. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Germany, England, France and Belgium with the 9th Air Force. He was discharged from Camp McCoy, Wisconsin as a sergeant in March of 1946. He had been a resident of Cherokee County all his life. He was a floor covering specialist, working for Trimble Furniture and Schmidt Furniture until becoming self employed and working exclusively for Cherokee Floor Covering. He retired in: 1975 due to failing health and rheumatoid arthritis. He was a member of the Church of Christ, a Life Member of the D.A.V., 52 year member of Treptow Post #230 of the American Legion, and a Life Member of L. A. Wescott VFW Post #225. He enjoyed fishing and golf, having accomplished two aces on No.4 and No. 7 at the Aurelia Country Club. Survivors Include his wife, Marjorie; a daughter, Tamara and her husband, Logan A. Patterson, Cherokee; a son, Sherman Hoxsie and his wife, Julie, Aledo, Illinois; three grandchildren: Michelle and her husband, Travis Lundy, Omaha, Nebraska; Logan M. Patterson, Cherokee; and Andrea Hoxsie, Aledo; a brother.George Hoxsie, Fresno, California; two stepsisters: Marian O'Connell, Spokane, Washington; and Katherine and her husband, Bill Berry, Storm Lake, Iowa; and a stepsister-in-law: Lois Nelson, Cherokee. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two stepbrothers: Paul and Theodore Nelson. The family requests memorials be made to the Sioux Valley Memorial hospital hospice.
