Read More	(By Bostonherald.com staff, MA) Thursday, March 16, 2006 - Paul Raymond Jacobs Sr. of Attleboro, a World War II veteran and business owner, died Sunday at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was 82. Born, raised and educated in Providence, R.I., he had lived in Rhode Island until moving to Attleboro in 1949. He graduated from Classical High School. He attended Butler Aviation School at T.F. Green Airport in Warwick, R.I., and Rhode Island College. During World War II he served as a surgical technician in the Army with the medical detachment 1301st Engineer General Service Regiment from his enlistment on Feb. 9, 1943, until his honorable discharge on Jan. 7, 1946. While serving in the military, he attended surgical technician school. In the absence of a medical doctor, Mr. Jacobs often had to assist or perform surgical procedures on members of his regiment. He participated in battles and campaigns in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. His regiment was credited with saving the lives of numerous children that were rescued from a burning orphanage. Mr. Jacobs received the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Ribbon with Bronze Service Star. He worked in the high-tech and aerospace industry prior to becoming the founder of Attleboro Machine Co., where he served as owner and operator for more than 25 years prior to his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Stephen's Church, Attleboro. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. John Council 404 in Attleboro. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed boating on the ocean, snowmobiling in the winter months, and hiking. He enjoyed model ship and furniture building in his retirement, and was an avid photographer who had his works published. His favorite activity was cycling. As recently at two years ago he would cycle as far as 40 miles at a time. He enjoyed bicycling to Colt State Park in Bristol, R.I., where, at the age of 74, he was ticketed by the police for exceeding the motor vehicle speed limit on his bicycle. Husband of the late Anita E. (Langlois); Mr. Jacobs is survived by two sons, Paul R. Jr. and Gery N., both of Plainville; a daughter, Gayle A. of Attleboro; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Stephen's Church, Attleboro. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Attleboro.
