Description	:	Paul H. Shartzer, 83, of Napoleon, died peacefully at the Napoleon Lutheran Home on Thursday, August 15, 2013. He was born March 9, 1930 in Napoleon to the late William Shartzer and Ruth (Mengerink) Shartzer. On August 5, 1951, he married Jennie Cortright at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon where he formerly served as an usher and served on the St. Paul School Board. Shartzer, 83, of Napoleon, died peacefully at the Napoleon Lutheran Home on Thursday, August 15, 2013. He was born March 9, 1930 in Napoleon to the late William Shartzer and Ruth (Mengerink) Shartzer. On August 5, 1951, he married Jennie Cortright at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon where he formerly served as an usher and served on the St. Paul School Board. Paul served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post #300 for 50 years, the V.F.W. #8218, the AmVets #1313 and was formerly very active in the Lions Club. Paul was honored by the Napoleon High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007. He was the owner and operator of Bill's Carry Out in Napoleon from 1967 to 1984. He formerly worked for the Rausch Lumber Company and was also a mail courier for a number of years. Paul loved northern Ontario, Canada for its fishing, hunting and nature. He spent vacation each summer at the cottage they owned. He also enjoyed the Florida sunshine during the winters, gardening and lawn care. He is lovingly survived by his wife Jennie of Napoleon, and daughters, Jolyn Heavener of Maumee, Ohio and Julie (William) Sparkman of Napoleon, 4 grandchildren, Brittany Ohlrich, Derek Hahn, Jared Olds, Jackson Heavener, and 1 great grandson Otto Heavener, sisters; Sandra Bain of Jacksonville, FL, Judy Miller of Port Orange, FL, Shirley (Larry) Dennie of Bryan, OH, and Barbara (Dean) Helberg of Ft. Wayne,IN. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Shartzer. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon, officiating Pastors Peter Marcis and Charles Kramer. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Napoleon with military honors accorded by the Napoleon Joint Veterans Posts. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m., Sunday, at Rodenberger Funeral Home in Napoleon and from 10-11 a.m. Monday prior to services at the church.
