Description	:	CUMBERLAND - Paul Stephen Martin, 86, of Cumberland, died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at his home with family by his side. Born Dec. 16, 1920, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William T. and L. Cecilia (Dressman) Martin. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Gerard, Vincent, Leonard, Richard, Charles R. "Sam," James and John; four sisters, Rita, Bernadette, Mary and Dorothy; and two great-granddaughters, Macie and Abigail Martin. Paul served in the U.S. Navy. Born Dec. 16, 1920, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William T. and L. Cecilia (Dressman) Martin. He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Gerard, Vincent, Leonard, Richard, Charles R. "Sam," James and John; four sisters, Rita, Bernadette, Mary and Dorothy; and two great-granddaughters, Macie and Abigail Martin. Paul served in the U.S. Navy. He was a life-long member of the Knights of Columbus Council 586. Paul was a devout Catholic by faith and a life-long member of the Church of St. Patrick. He was retired from PPG Industries. Paul enjoyed a long fulfilling life. He especially loved spending time with his wife, children and their families. Paul was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was proud of the fact that his great love for the outdoors has passed down to his sons and grandsons. Paul had a life-long passion for Notre Dame football, which often was the center of family gatherings. In 1996, Paul, his wife and several of his children traveled to Dublin, Ireland, to see the Irish play Navy. Paul viewed the trip as a fulfillment of a life-long dream. Paul touched many lives. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather. Paul was a good friend to all who knew him. He will be sadly missed and thought of often by his family and friends. Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Mary (McGann) Martin; three sons, Stephen Martin and wife Roxanne, Charleston, S.C., Dave Martin and wife Vickie, Cumberland, Greg Martin and wife Debbie, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; four daughters, Cecilia Pittman and husband Bill, Mary Strem and husband Fred, Margaret Wright and husband Michael, all of Cumberland, Paulette Young and husband Eddie, Short Gap, W.Va.; grandchildren, Stephen Martin, David Martin and wife Kathryn, Paul Martin and wife Beth, Eddie Martin, Amy Martin, Cindy Martin, Bobby Aldridge and wife Megan, Amanda Prince and husband Donnell, Josh Pittman, Zachary Pittman, Doug Anders and wife Nikki, Chad Anders, Chris Anders and wife Leslie, Jenny Dunkin and husband Jeff, Chris Strem, Jenna Strem, Caitlin Strem, Megan Wright, Michael Wright, Morgan Kelly and Allyson Young; and 15 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, (scarpellifh.com) on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at the funeral home Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. with Knights of Columbus members attending. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Monsignor Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant. Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be grandsons. The family requests contributions be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 201 N.
