Solemn requiem high mass for Paul Vincent Phalen, 45, superintendent of the cleaning department of the Ohio Steel Foundry Co., who died Thursday noon in his home, will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Rose Catholic church. Msgr. James S. Elder will be the celebrant and burial will be in Gethsemane cemetery. Ill the past 10 months, Mr. Phalen was a resident of 701 W. Wayne-st. Prior to a serious illness, he had been active in religious, civic and fraternal organizations in Lima. He had supervised the cleaning room of the Lima plant a number of years. A life-long resident of Lima, Mr. Phalen was graduated from St. Rose high school. He was a member of the St. Rose Holy Name society, the Elks lodge, Knights of Columbus, and a charter member of the Foremen's club. Surviving are his widow, Marguerite; a son, Pvt. Paul James, USA; two brothers, Joseph R., Springfield, and Francis, 962 W. North-st; two sisters, Mrs. W. M. Shambarger, 953 W. North-st, and Mrs. W. G. Reese, 951 W. North-st. A brother, James, preceded him in death a year ago. The body will remain at the residence until time for rites, with the Cantwell mortuary in charge of arrangements. Members of Loyalty Council, K. of C., will meet Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Phalen home to recite the rosary. The Rev. Edward Dunn, chaplain, will conduct the service. The Elks lodge members will meet at 8 p.m. Friday at lodge headquarters to go in a body to the residence for services. (published in The Lima News, Friday, June 7, 1946, page 2)
