Read More	Paula (Linke) Jess (1908 - 1999) ---------- SPOUSE: Harry Jess, b. 1904, d. 1998; ---------- Paula Jess was born December 29, 1908, the daughter of William and Marie Christiansen Linke. She died at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada, Iowa on Tuesday, June 22, 1999 at the age of ninety. Paula was born in Pell Worm, Germany, where she was baptized in Christ. As a young child she immigrated to the United States with her parents, settling near Schleswig, Iowa. She received her education in a rural school near her home. On February 6, 1929, Paula was united in marriage to Harry Jess. The couple farmed near Battle Creek for one year and then moved to the Schleswig area, where they continued to farm. In 1968, the couple moved into Schleswig, where they made their home until August of 1996, when they entered the Long Term Care in Nevada. Paula was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and their Ladies Aid. She was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed visiting with her family. In her leisure time she enjoyed playing cards and sewing. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harry on March 13, 1998, one grandson, Troy Myers, four sisters, Dora Christiansen, Wilhelmina Bliesman, Marie Baeth, Helga Bielenberg and five brothers, Friedrich, Carl, Max, Paul and Herman Linke in infancy. Survivors include one son, Val Gene Jess and his wife, Brenda of New Sharon, Iowa; one daughter, Karen Twedt and her husband, Don of Radcliffe, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jerry Jess of Taintor, Iowa; Jeffery Jess and his wife, Joanne of Urbana, Iowa; Kristin Fendrick and her husband, Roger of Des Moines; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Brandon and Cole Jess of Urbana; two brothers-in-law, Harwin Jess and his wife, Dorothy of Denison; Hans Jess and his wife, Ruth of Schleswig; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 11 A.M., Thursday, June 24, 1999 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "I Know that My Redeemer Lives". Those serving as pallbearers were: Bonard Christiansen, Freddie Friedrichsen, Richard Pickel, Roger Fendrick, Jeffery Jess and Jerry Jess.
