Funeral services for Mrs. Freeman were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 11 form the Essex Covenant Church. The Revs Ray McCain and Richard Gustafson officiated and internet was in the Essex Cemetery. Pearl Salstrand Freeman, the oldest of 11 children of Lenus and Emily Swanson Salstrand, was born December 24, 1893 in Shenandoah, Iowa. Pearl was united in marriage with Walter L. Freeman on May 15, 1923, and they lived all of their married life in Essex. She was a member of the Essex Covenant Church. Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers, Albert, Eriing, Elmer, and Art Salstrand; two sisters, Edith Bishop, and Esther Atkinson; a granddaughter, Vicki Freeman, and her husband, Walter on November 2, 1977. She is survived by one son, Wendell Freeman and his wife, Mona, of Essex; one daughter, Gloria and her husband, Rev. Raymond McCain of Rockford, Illinois; three granddaughters, Connie Andersson of Des Moines; Rozanne and her husband, Jake Richards, of Roscoe, Illinois, Cheryl and her husband, Rev. Red Whitaker, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; and 8 great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Ruth Baby of Sedro Wooley, Washington, Ruby Drake of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, and Clara Lundgren of Ione, California; one brother, Oscar Salstrand of Corpus Christie, Texas, a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
