Byrd, highly respected Crisfield matron, died in the McCready Hospital Tuesday afternoon after a brief illness following a heart attack. She was 68 years of age. She was a daughter of the late Peter and Addie Holland Evans, and had been a lifelong resident of Crisfield. Mrs. Byrd was a member of and an active worker with the First Baptist Church here. She was a member of the choir and of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She had a large circle of friends who held her in warm affection for her many admirable qualities. She had always been an active and energetic woman, neighborly, and finding great pleasure in helping others. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the First Baptist Church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. J. Guy Saunders. Burial was in Asbury Cemetery. Bearers were John Andrews, Thomas Pasquith, Reese Betts, Royce Bradshaw, Eugene Sterling and Stanley Moore. Surviving her are her husband, Archie Byrd; a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Sterling; a son, Nelson Byrd, all of Crisfield; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Nelson of Crisfield and Mrs. Marie Boggs of Baltimore; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
