Pearl was born to Earl and Rosa Benton on August 15, 1925, in Guthrie County. She attended Bear Grove #9 Country School in Guthrie County. On September 10, 1944, Pearl married Virgil Howland and to this union three daughters were born, Judy, Vickie, and Donnell. Pearl was born to Earl and Rosa Benton on August 15, 1925, in Guthrie County. She attended Bear Grove #9 Country School in Guthrie County. On September 10, 1944, Pearl married Virgil Howland and to this union three daughters were born, Judy, Vickie, and Donnell. Following Virgil’s death on March 16, 1971, Pearl married Ray Courtney on December 26, 1972. Pearl worked on the farm, cooked at the Adair Nursing Home and the Adair-Casey School. Later she and Ray owned Courtney Cafe and later managed a restaurant. She later cooked at the Presbyterian Camp and Guthrie Grove Camp. Her favorite past times were cooking, gardening, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, and going to grandchildren’s activities. She was very involved with her church family and church activities. Church was an important part of her life. Pearl is survived by her daughters: Judy (Jim) Tholen of Chico, California, Vickie (Roger) Richter of Adair, and Donnell (Benny) Jones of Alameda, California. Two step-children: Jane (Roy) Goodlaxson of Altoona, and Mark (Karen) Courtney of Guthrie Center. Five grandchildren: Milia Edwards, Michelle (Ben) Bhargava, Jennifer (Joel) Betterton, Matthew Richter, Justin Moreno. Nine step-grandchildren: Amy (Kevin) Robbins, Kyle (Gloria) Courtney, Brent (Kate) Courtney, Alisa (Jason) Simpson, Leah Courtney, Adam (Anna) Courtney, Caleb Courtney, Samuel Courtney, and Rachel Courtney. Six great-grandchildren: Sara and Kayla Martinez, Chloe and Emily Edwards, Maggie and Emma Vogl. Ten step-great grandchildren: Konnor, Sadie, and Carsen Robbins, Grace, Colin, and Madelyn Courtney, Franklin and Carter Courtney, and Stryker and Steel Simpson. One sister, Polly Hansen and one brother, Darrell Benton, and other friends and family. Proceeding her in death were her parents, Earl and Rosa Benton; her first husband, Virgil Howland, second husband, Ray Courtney, four brothers, Frank, Virgil, Mel, and Lloyd, and step-son Bill Courtney.
