Description	:	Obituary provided by Great Niece Holly Newhouse Funeral services for Mrs. Darvin Hauswirth were held Friday, August 31 at the United Methodist Church of Havelock at 10:30am, OES Services were held thursday evening at the Smith Funeral Chapel of Laurens. Mrs. Peggy Lou Hauswirth passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 1990 at the Pocahontas Community Hospital at the age of 67 years, 1 month and 30 days. Rev. Dorie Hanson officiated at the services. Mrs. Peggy Lou Hauswirth passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 1990 at the Pocahontas Community Hospital at the age of 67 years, 1 month and 30 days. Rev. Dorie Hanson officiated at the services. Sharon Hauswirth was organist and Robert Nystrom sang "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers were Scott Doane, Mel Abrahamson, Bruce Hauswirth, Bill Kinney, Pat Kirsch and Jerry Van Horsen. Internment was in Washington Cemetery at Havelock with arrangements under the care of Smith Funeral Home of Laurens. Peggy Lou Cole was born June 29, 1923 at Garwin, Iowa, the daughter of Chester James Cole and Opal Kemp Cole. As an infant, Peggy came to Havelock with her family and after the tragic death of her mother by house fire, she was then raised by her maternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs Frank Kemp of Laurens. After Graduating from Laurens Consolidated School where she was an avid basketball player along with her sister Betty winning three state championships in 1940, she was employed at Laurens Creamery and at the Telephone Office in Laurens before being united in marriage to Darvin C Hauswirth on July 1, 1944 in services at Laurens.They have farmed 2 miles south of Havelock all their marital lives. Peggy was a member of the United Methodist Church of Havelock, the Martha and Quilting Circles of the United Methodist Women, of which she was currently vice president. She was also the present treasurer and past president of the American Legion Auxillary of Havelock and the present secretary and past president of the Pocahontas County American Legion Auxillary. She was also one of a group of ladies who wrote and put together the Havelock Bicentennial Book which can be found at the Havelock Public Library in Havelock, Iowa. She was a member of the Laurens Garden Club and a volunteer for the congregate meal program in Havelock. Peggy was extremely active in the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member, past Matron and present Worthy Matron of Laurens Chapter #265, O.E.S. She was a district instructor from 1958-1971, was appointed Grand Martha in 1961 and served as Worth Grand Matron of Iowa in 1972. She also had served 10 years on the board of the Easter Star Masonic Home at Boone. She also loved spending time with her nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews in life. They were her pride and joy next to her children. She is survived by her husband Darvin, son John A "Jack" Hauswirth of Lithonia, Georgia and a daughter, Christie Lowman of Algona, Iowa, 5 grandchildren and her mother-in-law Mrs. Manely Hauswirth of Laurens.
