It appears that Percy was hanging on to the wagon under the load unbeknown to Mr. Smith when the accident happened, and then he made the turn to drive into King's barn the little fellow was brushed off and fell under the wheel, which passed over his head. The unfortunate boy was killed instantly and his head was badly crushed and mangled. Percy was a bright, active child, and his sudden and terrible death is a great shock to his relatives and to the whole community. His funeral, which was largely attended, was held on Thursday afternoon, Rev. W. A. Warner of Barton officiating. He leaves a father, mother, and three sisters, who have the heartfelt sympathy of the whole community in their great affliction." (Orleans County Monitor, 8/22/1904)
