Percy Roy Merritt was born in Sioux Falls, SD on Oct. 5, 19, the son of John and Verona (Stribley) Merritt. He grew up and attended school in Tea. On Dec. 20, 1939, he was united in marriage to Clara Stoffers at LaValley Presbyterian parsonage, rural Lennox. They live in various places before moving to Sioux Falls in 1948. He was a carpenter most of his life. In 1957 they moved to their farm south of Sioux Falls where they lived for 32 years. Percy continued his work as a carpenter. They maintained their membership at LaValley Presbyterian Church, rural Lennox, until it closed. In 1989, they moved to their home in Lennox, where they also joined Faith Presbyterian Church. He became a resident of the Lennox Good Samaritan Center on Aug. 24, 1995. His death ended a marriage of over 56 years. He was preceded in death by father in 1918, his step-father in 1958, his mother in 1988, five brothers: Archie Merritt, Forest Merritt, Russell Merritt, Bernard Merritt, including one in infancy. In addition to his wife, Clara, he is survived by five brothers: Dewey Merritt of Morris, MN, Albert Hyronimus of Lennox, George Hyronimus and Randy Hyronimus, both of Worthing, and Millard Hyronimus of Canton; two sisters; Nona Gimbel and Emma Hyronimus, both of Worthing.
