Description	:	Services were held Monday, June 30 at Second Reformed Church in Lennox for Clara Merritt, 95, who died at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, SD on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 following a lengthy illness. Pallbearers were Ernest Tammen, Clarence Smit, George Steever, Alfred Peters, Don Friedman, and Adrian Elcock. Interment was held at Faith LaValley Cemetery in rural Lennox. Clara Henrietta Stoffers was born on a farm east of Lennox, South Dakota on July 7, 1912, the daughter of Ed and Annie (Wumkes) Stoffers. She attended Sherman District #51 Rural School and grew up there. On Dec. 20, 1939 she was united in marriage to Percy R. Merritt at LaValley Presbyterian Parsonage at rural Lennox. Following their marriage they lived in various places and moved to Sioux Falls in 1948. During that time she was employed at Manchester Biscuit Company for nine years. In 1957 they moved to a farm south of Sioux Falls where they lived for 33 years. They retired and moved to Lennox in 1989. Her husband died on Sept. 20, 1996. In September of 2000 she moved to Hilda's Heritage Home in Lennox, where she had since lived. Clara was a former member of LaValley Presbyterian Church and Faith Presbyterian Church. She presently was a member of Second Reformed Church in Lennox. She was the LaValley Cemetery secretary for ten years and served on the Faith-LaValley Cemetery Board for 25 years. She was preceded in death by her mother in 1961, her father in 1971, her husband in 1996, one sister: Lena Albers in 1979; three brothers: Edwin Stoffer in 1999, Alverne Stoffers in 2003 and one brother in infancy. Grateful for having shared her life is her sister: Mae Stoffers of Lennox; plus several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
