Pitts II At Wichita Kansas, and Some Reminiscences of the Family Perz R. Pitts II married Harriet Budrow in 1875. Perz Richmond Pitts II was the second son of Wm. R. Pitts III, who, in his youth was, by inheritance from babyhood, the wealthiest young man in Richmond. He owned a large farm on the road to Allen's Hill. He (Wm. R. Pitts III), married Emily Pomeroy, one of the belles of East Bloomfield and they had a fine family of five children – four sons, Benton, Perz R. II, William IV, Charles, and one daughter, Emily Pomeroy (Stoddard). Here Perz R. Pitts II, and his bride went to reside, and here were born four children, Olive, George, William and Fred. With so many members of the Pitts family in Kansas, Perz R. II had a bad case of westernitis fever. His wife had inherited her Grandfather Kennedy's home, so that house was modernized and the family transferred here. This house is now owned by E.W. Gilbert, Jr. The old home of William Pitts I was sold and Perz R. II followed his father and family to Kansas. Eventually he and his brother-in-law, (formerly of Naples) owned and operated a large flour mill in Abilene, Kansas. The families of William R. III, his son, Perz II, and daughter, Emily Pitts Stoddard, all live in Abilene now, and Charles was also a resident of the state. After they had lived in Kansas a dozen years or so, Perz and Harriet Pitts, made a vacation trip to New York State in 1896, leaving the children in charge of "Grandma Pitts," (once the belle of East Bloomfield). Such a happy, happy time they had among their old friends, and how glad the old friends were to see them. It was indeed a love feast. They had returned to Abilene but a few short weeks when one morning in October, Perz R. Pitts II was instantly and unaccountably killed in the machinery at the mill. No amount of conjecture has ever solved this mystery. Perz R. Pitts is buried in the Pitts family lot at Abilene beside his wife, his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. William R. Pitts III, his sister, Emily Pitts Stodard, and his brother, Charles P. Pitts, all of whom were formerly from Honeoye. Pitts, of Canandaigua, received notification of the death of his brother, Perez R. Pitts, of Abilene, Kansas, formerly of Richmond, Ontario County. Deceased met his death in a tragic manner, being caught in a shaft in a flouring mill and whirled to his death. He was aged 43 years. From The Naples Record of November 4, 1896 Honeoye -The entire community was saddened upon hearing on Thursday of last week of the terrible death, by accident, in a flouring mill at Abilene, Kansas, of Perez R. Pitts, formerly of this town. The event occurred the previous evening. Mr. and Mrs. Pitts had only the past summer spent several weeks in Honeoye cementing old-time friendships, and the death of this one comrade, in the very prime of life, brought sadness to many hearts. All sympathize with his afflicted family. His age was 43 years.
