October 28, 1893, and passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, aged 54 years and 4 days. He was one of a family of ten children, one sister, Minnie Johnson, two brothers, Smith and Frank, and his father having preceded him in death. He grew to manhood on his father's farm in Adams County, farming there until 1918, when he moved to a farm near Massena, Iowa. In September of that year he was called to serve his country and spent six months at Camp Dodge in Des Moines. After being discharged he returned to Massena and continued to farm there until 1927 when he and his nephew. Otto Sundstrom started the first oil station in Bridgewater and he was still interested in at at the time of his death. July 1st, 1931, he was united in marriage to Ethel M. Sullivan of Bridgewater and to them were born thre children, Phillis Joy, Perry Clark, and. Frank Arthur. They were the pride and joy of their father's life. For several years Perry had suffered from a liver ailment which during the last two years had gradually grown worse and although he had tender and loving care and all the help of medical science it was of no avail. During the last 18 months he with his family have been living on their farm south of Bridgewater. He leaves to mourn his untimely death his devoted wife and three children, his aged mother. Mrs. Charlotte Cole, two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Sundstrom of Corning. Mrs. Ladye Powell of Rouleau, Canada, four brothers; Fred and Floyd of Bridgewater, Arthur of Preseott, Harry of Massena and nephew Russel Johnson of Massena who was reared in the Cole home and was as dear to him as any brother could be. Funeral Services were held at Bridgewater, Iowa, Thursday, November 6 with burial in the Bridgewater Cemetery. Adams County Free Press, November 13, 1947
