On December 29, 1932, Mr. Gifford became quite ill and had been bedfast since that time, suffering from several ailments, brought on from injuries received several years ago. The last few days he had been worse and he died at 9:30 o'clock Tuesday morning. The body was taken to the Edwards funeral home to be prepared for burial and will be taken later to the late home where it will lie in state until the hour of the funeral are friends are invited to call. Services will be held at the Methodist church in windfall and burial will follow in the Brookside cemetery. This fine gentleman was born Feb. 15, 1863 in Greene county, Ohio, the only son of B.F. and Melissa H Gifford. A girl was also born, but she died in infancy. In November 1864, the family moved to a farm near Windfall and b.F. Gifford became one of the largest landowners in Tipton county. P.D. Gifford was united in marriage on Nov. 21, 1886, to Miss Geneva Hammell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Hammell, also pioneers of the Windfall community, and they resided on a farm until about fifteen years ago when he retired from farming and moved to Windfall where he entered the garage business. Four children were born of this union, three of whom are still living; Mabel at home, and Mrs. Clifford Blackman and forest Gifford, both of Danville, Ill. No other immediate relatives survive besides the wife and children, but there are many old friends who will mourn his passing.
