Description	:	Benjamin Gifford, one of the best known residents of the east part of Tipton county, died at his home at windfall, this morning at 7:30 o'clock, his death being due to Bright's disease, from which ailment he had suffered for a long time. Benjamin F. Gifford was a man who made a great deal out of very meager circumstances and surroundings. He was born in Scioto county, Ohio March 25, 1834 and was the son of Isaac and Sarah Gifford. Mr. Gifford was left an orphan at the age of fifteen years and was thrown upon the world with but little education and means with which to assist him to a more fortunate position. He worked at odd jobs and later on engaged in the blacksmith business, becoming the apprentice of a mechanic in his home town. In 1864, he came to Indiana and located at Windfall. He had accumulated a little money and with this he purchased forest land, getting it at a very small price, and as he was able he made new purchases. He at times had many men employed cutting timber, making ties and other marketable material. He also worked as a section hand on the Panhandle road, which passed through Windfall, and later on worked at the business of a stave maker. In all, Mr. Gifford was a busy man, being always employed and he gradually accumulated property, which afterwards, became more valuable. Mr. Gifford was married December 29, 1859 (?) to Miss Melissa H. Thornburg, of Greene county, Ohio, who died in 1865, leaving one son, Perry. In 1866, he was married to Miss Susan McClish, of, (?)
