'''''''''''''''' The Elgin Review, September 17, 1942, p. 1, col. 3 Peter Erpelding Passes Away Peter Erpelding, 84, passed away on Sunday evening, Sept. 13, at his home nine miles southwest of Elgin. Death was due to age and he had been in failing health for the past several years. Funeral services were held at St. Boniface church in Elgin on Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Theo H. Buelt in charge. Burial was made in St. Boniface cemetery. Peter Erpelding was born Aug. 18, 1858 at Luxembourg, Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Erpelding. He received his education in Germany and in 1883 came to this country with his father, two brothers and one sister. His mother had died. The family settled in Butler county, Nebr. On Feb. 8, 1887, Peter Erpelding was wed to Susanne Capesius, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Capesius at David City, Nebr. To this union were born five children, all of whom survive their father. They are in order of their age, Mrs. Joe Lohoff of Raeville and Mrs. Ben Penne, Michael Erpelding, James Erpelding and Theodore Erpelding all of Elgin. Mrs. Erpelding preceded her husband in death on Feb. 25, 1924. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; one brother, Nicholas Erpelding of Kearney, Nebr.; and 5 great grandchildren. Mr. Erpelding's lifetime occupation was that of farming. He, with his family, moved to near Elgin in 1912, and lived near here from then until the time of his death. Active pallbearers at the funeral were six grandsons, Bernard and Richard Penne, William Starman, Leonard Penne and Matthew and Joseph Lohoff. Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Erpelding, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Erpelding and Fred and Louis Erpelding, all of Kearney, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Eller, Mrs. Fred Lang and Mrs. Nicholas Baer of David City, Nebr. ___ CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our thanks and appreciation to our friends for their sympathy and helpfulness during the illness and death of our father, Peter Erpelding.
