Mr. Caraher died Thursday, Dec. 29, at Carroll Health Center in Carroll. Eucharistic ministers were Mary Clocke and Adeline Reicks. Lector was Dr. Paul Caraher. Gift bearers were Joan Galli and Mary Jane Caraher. Casket bearers were Mark Caraher, John Caraher, Paul Caraher II, Justin Caraher, Jim Galli, Jerome Galli and Peter Galli. Honorary casket bearers were Jim Kerwin, Melvin Busche, Owen Martin, Ray Middendorf, Glenn Winker and Cletus McGrane. Burial was in Willow Township Cemetery near Bayard. Born February 20, 1899, in Willow Township, Greene County, he was a son of Michael and Catherine (McDonald) Caraher. He attended Willow Township Country School and Trinity High School in Sioux City. He also attended Boyles Busi ness College in Omaha. Following college he traveled for two years, working in Washington and Los Angeles, Calif. He then returned to Greene County to farm. On April 20, 1931, he married Thelma J. Horan at St. John's Cathedral in Des Moines with the Rev. John Moriarty officiating. Mr. Caraher operated his farm near Bayard until 1964. The couple moved to Carroll in 1956. They moved to the Carroll Health Center in August 1992. Mr. Caraher was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and the Legion of Mary. Survivors include his wife, Thelma, of Carroll; two sons, Dr. Paul Caraher of Nashville, Tenn., and Bill Caraher and his wife, Mary Jane of Coon Rapids; daughter, Joan Galli of Los Altos, Calif.; three sisters-in-law, Darlyne Murphy of Rock Rapids, Mildred Horan of Jefferson and Marie Caraher of Bagley; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and three priests and a nun who were educated by the Carahers. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Brother Jerome, OCSO; Joseph, Edward, John, Thomas and Father Paul; sisters: Sister Mary Ursula, SMRN, and Sister Mary Magdalene, SMRN; son-in-law, Oscar Galli; and granddaughter, Mary Bernadette Galli.
