Burial was in Willow Township Cemetery in Greene County. Casket bearers were Jim Galli, Jerome Galli, Mark Caraher, John Caraher, Paul Caraher III, Justin Caraher and Peter Galli. Honorary bearers were Adeline Reicks, Harriet Hallinan, Mary Klocke, Margaret Gach, Delores Staley, Kathie Henkenius, Marje Grossman, Glenn Winkler, Melvin Busche, Jim Kerwin and Luverne Brinker. Twit Funeral Home in Carroll was in charge of arrangements. THELMA CARAHER Thelma Caraher was born September 6, 1907, in Scranton, the daughter of William and Johanna O'Brien Horan, She attended Jefferson public schools and graduated from Bayard High School in 1924. She and Peter F. Caraher were married April 20, 1932, at St. John Catholic Church in Des Moines. The Carahers lived on their farm north of Bayard. She was active in St. Patrick Catholic Church, where she taught catechism for 10 years. The Carahers moved to Carroll in 1956. Thelma also held various offices in the Ladies Guild and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas over the years. She was the first secretary for The Mothers Club of St. Angela Academy when it formed in the early 1950s. In Carroll, the Carahers were active in St. Joseph Parish and later Holy Spirit Parish. Thelma was a member of the adult choir at Holy Spirit and involved in the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. She was active in the St. Anthony Regional Hospital Auxiliary and was a charter member of the Legion of Mary. She enjoyed raising flowers and vegetables. After moving to the Carroll Health Center in 1992, Thelma helped organize a garden club and was its first president. She died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Carroll Health Center. She was 94 years old. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter in 1994; a son, Dr. Paul Caraher; son-in-law, Oscar Galli; granddaughter, Mary Galli; two brothers: John and Harold Horan; and six sisters: Vera Horan, Nell Duff, Hazel Loehr, Irene Olmstead, Darlyne Murphy and Gladys Minnehan. Survivors include a daughter, Joan Galli of Los Altos, CA; son, Bill Caraher and his wife, Mary Jane of Carroll; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marie Caraher of Chandler, AZ; other relatives and friends.
