MATHENY The subject of our sketch is one of the early settlers of Otter Creek Township, now residing on section 32, on a handsome farm of eighty acres, all in a high state of cultivation. He was born in Guernsey County, Ohio, May 10, 1830 and is the son of Joseph and Susanna (Balis) Matheny. He was born in Guernsey County, Ohio, May 10, 1830 and is the son of Joseph and Susanna (Balis) Matheny. His father was also a native of the Buckeye State, and was born in 1801 dying in the State of his nativity in 1846. The mother was a native of New York, born in Otsego County in 1799, and died June 26, 1867. They became the parents of seven children, as follows: Martha J., born Jan. 23, 1824; Julia A. April 16, 1826; Mary R.,Dec 17, 1828; Peter, May 10, 1830; Katurah, April 5, 1832; Charles H. May 20, 1834 and John ., Dec. 11, 1836. Peter F. of this notice was united in marriage with Miss Nancy Edaburn, Feb. 13, 1853. She was born Dec. 28, 1831. They have become the parents of six children, as follows: Benjamin, born Jan. 2, 1854; Joseph, May 4, 1856; Theodore, March 18, 1860; John M., born April 6, 1864, died Sept. 2, 1865; George, born April 13, 1866, and Mary E., April 13, 1874.Mr. Matheny came to Iowa in 1854.
